Placements

From full-time to global consulting.

Each individual below was engaged in full-time employment before we reached out. Through strategic partnerships, we placed them in remote consulting engagements where they now advise international clients. Sign up to be considered for similar opportunities.

Irene Mugi

Four years in. Then a call.

"I'm grateful to now be consulting for clients across multiple markets. The work is remote, the variety is energizing."

Irene spent four years at Open Capital, one of East Africa's most respected advisory firms, leading management consulting engagements across the region. Before that, investment work at Kiva and research roles at StratLink. CFA Institute Research Challenge alumna, MBA candidate at the University of East London.

She wasn't looking when we reached out. We had a partnership opportunity that matched her background — remote consulting work for international clients, flexible engagement structure, no relocation required. She took the call, considered the terms, and decided to make the move.

She's been consulting globally since late 2025.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Common questions about the process, costs, and who this service is built for.

Who is this for?

This service is built for two groups:

First, professionals currently employed who have the capacity to offer services fractionally — typically one to two days per week — without impacting their current contractual obligations. You remain in your role while taking on select project work that fits your expertise and schedule.

Second, individuals looking to establish their own independent consultancy and offer services to multiple clients. Whether you're planning a full transition from employment or testing the market before making the leap, we support both paths.

How did this start?

We've spent years placing full-time employees into consulting roles through strategic partnerships, and recruiting for startups, growth companies, and established firms across sectors. Over time, we noticed two trends converging: more professionals wanted flexibility beyond traditional employment, and more companies began approaching us specifically for fractional engagements rather than full-time hires.

We realized we had the market positioning, network, and tools to support this shift. Rather than treat fractional work as a side offering, we decided to build a dedicated platform and network for it. The direction is clear — this is where the market is moving.

What does the process look like?

We start with a discovery call to assess fit. We'll explain what we do, how we support transitions to fractional work, and whether your background aligns with what our network is looking for. If we're aligned and you decide to move forward, we agree on terms and begin.

From there, we optimize your profile — LinkedIn, resume, and a personal website that serves as your portfolio and brand anchor. Throughout the process, we provide both advisory and technical support: positioning your offer, pricing your services, structuring client engagements, and navigating the practicalities of fractional work.

Once your profile is live, we platform you across our network through targeted outreach, LinkedIn features (optional), and introductions to companies actively seeking fractional talent.

The entire process takes 8–10 weeks from start to finish.

How many candidates do you take at a time?

We work with 8–10 candidates per cohort. Three reasons: first, we can't platform multiple candidates in the same domain to the same companies without creating internal competition. Second, bespoke positioning takes time — each profile needs tailored messaging, not template copy. Third, our partners have limited interview capacity. Sending 30 candidates means most sit in a queue. Ten means faster placements.

Why do you work with so few candidates at once?

We run a boutique operation by design. Our network is finite and relationship-dependent — if we flood the same companies with too many profiles, response rates collapse and we lose the trust that makes warm introductions work. Quality introductions require restraint.

Companies respond because we send them 2–3 relevant profiles per month, not 20. Volume destroys trust, and trust is what makes placements happen.

Does this cover business registration and KRA setup for Kenya-based consultants?

Not directly, but we support you in two ways. First, we have trusted partners who handle business registration, KRA PIN setup, tax compliance, and ongoing advisory for independent consultants in Kenya. We'll connect you to the right people based on your structure and needs.

Second, we offer a self-help option for those who prefer to handle it themselves. We provide detailed step-by-step instructions and guidance for registering as a sole proprietor or limited company, obtaining your KRA PIN, and understanding your tax obligations. You handle the execution; we provide the roadmap.

What are the engagement fees?

The total investment is KES 150,000 (~USD 1,160), structured in two phases:

Phase 1: Profile Foundation — KES 75,000 (~USD 580)
Timeline: 10–14 days

We build your fractional foundation: optimized LinkedIn and resume positioning, personal branded website, and core narrative that positions you for consulting work rather than employment.

Phase 2: Market Activation — KES 75,000 (~USD 580)
Timeline: 3–4 weeks

We activate your presence across our network through targeted outreach, LinkedIn amplification, guided self-outreach cadence, and direct introductions to companies seeking fractional talent.

Payment structure:
Three installments of KES 50,000 (~USD 390) each. Final payment upon completion of Phase 2.

Optional: Ongoing Platform Access — KES 15,000 (~USD 115) per quarter

After the 8–10 week process, you can opt to remain part of our network. This keeps your profile visible to companies on our platform and ensures continued exposure to opportunities as they arise. All project revenue goes directly to you — we don't take a commission.

What do the engagement fees cover?

Your investment includes:

  • Profile optimization — LinkedIn, resume, and narrative positioning for fractional work
  • Personal branded website — A professional site that serves as your portfolio and grows with your practice
  • Rate card development and pricing strategy — Guidance on positioning your services competitively based on your domain and seniority
  • Commercial structuring — Guidance on structuring retainers vs. project fees vs. hourly rates for different client types
  • Client contract templates — Reviewed for Kenyan legal context to protect your interests
  • Invoicing and payment setup guidance — Introduction to professional email hosting services, invoicing platforms, and payment solutions
  • Network platforming — Targeted outreach to companies, LinkedIn amplification, and introductions through our partnerships
  • Professional referrals — Connections to accountants and lawyers experienced in independent consulting structures
  • 30-day post-launch support — Email and call access for troubleshooting, questions, and guidance as you take on your first engagements
  • Advocacy — We represent you in conversations with potential clients and partners, positioning your expertise where appropriate

Ready to explore remote consulting?

Most candidates we place were in full-time roles when we reached out. Remote consulting isn't freelancing — it's project-based work for international clients, often through established firms, with the flexibility to work from anywhere.
